Vacuum grippers use a vacuum to grip and lift various load types. They are a simple system comprising a vacuum pump connected by a hose to a suction head and suction foot (known as suction cups or vacuum pads). These are the contacts that hold the load.

When the suction feet touch the load, the airflow is blocked and an airtight seal is formed, causing the vacuum level to increase until the load is secure and can be gripped and lifted confidently and safely throughout the handling process.
