Polyethylene terephthalate is a semi-crystalline material from the polyester family of plastics and, due to its good thermal and mechanical properties, is counted among the polymer group of engineering plastics. It has a high surface hardness and good sliding and wear behaviour.
The mechanical properties of PET are hard, stiff, strong and tough and are approx. 10 % higher than those of the similar PBT. The good sliding properties and the high dimensional stability also open up a wide range of possible applications. Good results can be achieved in joining processes with two-component adhesives on the basis of e.g. epoxy resins or cyanoacrylates as well as silicones, for example. It is also possible to paint the components. High vacuum coating of the component surface is also possible. The continuous operating temperature ranges between approximately -20 °C and +100 °C. Like all polyesters, PET is also not resistant to hot water (from approx. +60 °C) in the long term. Our round rods and sheets in natural colour comply with the food contact regulations according to 10/2011/EC.
