Heavy load racking

This is the most popular and efficient storage system for palletised goods. It consists of rows of racking arranged to form intervening aisles for the circulation of mechanical handling equipment. Each product is accessed selectively and directly as each pallet is positioned in its corresponding space.

The system’s basic components are beams, which form the loading levels where goods are stored, and frames, which transfer the load vertically to the floor. The structure is dimensioned according to the physical characteristics of the articles to be stored and arranged to take full advantage of the space available, in line with the planned functionality of the warehouse, flow of stock and the handling elements employed.

Conventional pallet racking systems are usually designed in single or double rows. Single rows are racks that can be accessed from one side and are typically positioned at the sides of the storage area or at the warehouse’s perimeter attached to the building’s walls. Double rows are formed by connecting two single rows, they are located centrally within the storage area and can be accessed from both sides. Two double rows can be combined to create systems that are twice as deep in order to increase storage capacity and reduce the number of aisles; in which case, double-deep forklift trucks must be used to reach the rear pallets.
